Oregon’s Cannabis Industry: A Winning Strategy

BUSINESS PROBLEM

Entering the cannabis industry as a producer in Oregon presented an opportunity to tap into a well-established market with high consumer demand for recreational and medical cannabis. Despite market saturation and falling wholesale prices, there was potential to succeed as a producer by leveraging indoor controlled-environment cultivation to deliver consistent, high-quality products tailored to market demand. Indoor cultivation allowed for precise control over conditions such as lighting, temperature, and humidity, enabling year-round production and the development of premium strains with unique characteristics. This method supported niche opportunities, including organic, artisanal, and high-CBD or THC products, which are increasingly sought after in Oregon’s competitive market. A well-operated 10,000 sq. ft. indoor cannabis facility in Oregon could generate $6–7 million in annual revenue at a wholesale price of $1,000 per pound. Adjustments for larger facilities, higher yields, or premium pricing could significantly increase revenue potential. To preserve client confidentiality, we will refer to the premium cannabis producer as TVB.

The producer has expanded operations into Boring, Canby, and West Linn with the ability to quickly go to market (GTM) from purchase to seed to wholesale in 50% of the time it takes competitors and at one-half the expense. TVB has established strong reputations within Oregon’s competitive cannabis market, contributing to the state’s status as a leader in cannabis cultivation and innovation.
